Insight into the self-discharge suppression of electrochemical capacitors: progress and challenges

In this work, three different mechanisms (ohmic leakage, parasitic Faraday reaction, and charge redistribution) of supercapacitor self-discharge have been studied, and the recent research on self-discharge suppression strategies and principles explored at the electrode, electrolyte, diaphragm, and system design levels are presented, and future directions are given.
